Solomon pursues the meaning of life in Ecclesiastes. When he looks at life "under the sun" he doesn't see purpose but when he looks at life from god's perspective he sees more clearly. Even here, in Ch. 3, when he looks at the routines of life, the 'times' and seasons' we find ourselves in. Everything has purpose. God wastes nothing.
