James is arrested and killed by Herod. Peter is arrested and Herod's plan is to kill Peter. But after the Passover, which Herod attends and appears to celebrate with Israel their past deliverance from a despotic ruler (Pharaoh). By the end of the chapter Peter is freed from a despotic ruler; the despotic ruler is killed by God and the word of God continues to spread and a new worker is raised up, Mark.
