A discouraged post-exilic community has stopped rebuilding the temple. Through the godly leadership of the high priest Joshua and the Davdic descendent, Zerubbabel, the prophets Haggai and Zechariah spur the leaders on to rebuild the temple through encouraging words and visions. In this one God assures that even though they consider the rebuilt temple a 'small' thing, God says its what He wants.
