Paul challenges the Corinthians to pursue the spiritual gifts that benefit more people - in this case prophecy more than tongues. With the eventual disappearance of the role of prophets receiving new revelation from God, God by His Spirit now gifts some believers to speak prophetically, by the Word of God, to the needs of the community of believers. Tongues needs to be interpreted. prophecy does not. It's not that hard to figure out Paul says. So focus on ministering to others more than experiencing an 'exciting' gift.
